7th Grade-Alina Hamner and Leanna Calton
8th Grade-Jacob Pack and Josh McCormack

In 7th grade art each student studies the elements of art and principles of design through creative art experiences. Students experience the use of a variety of media along with studying artists and art history. During the semester course, art projects students will work on may include drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, fiber arts, sculpture, and an art history assignment. Students are required to keep a notebook, which will include slide notes, sketches, and tests.

In 8th grade, students are offered and elective art class. Enrichment Art is a year long program composed of students who are gifted in talent and/ or enthusiastic in art. It is both an individualized program in which the students work on projects of their choice and a program which includes teacher directed assignments. Students may work with a variety of media along with exploration of art history, aesthetics, and art criticism. Students are required to keep a sketchbook.

Students’ artwork is entered in many state and local contests and exhibits. The culmination of the school year is the annual art show. Art students from grade seven through twelve have pieces exhibited. McDowell Exchange School plays host to this ten-day exhibition. Both the high school and junior high music departments present spring concerts during this time. Logan Elm High School and McDowell Exchange School have celebrated the arts with the annual art show since 1967.
