Seventh grader, Paige Tackett will have a piece of her art work shown by the Big Screen Plaza in New York City from March 1 - 3. Her painting will be a part of a young artist's art work exhibition viewed on a 30' x 14' Big Screen near Times Square and will coincide with the National Art Education Associations annual convention.

Rachel Agosta,, also a seventh grader, had her watercolor painting titled Euphraties was chosen to be a part of the Ohio Art Education Associations (OAEA) Young People’s Art Exhibition. The exhibit will run from March 1 – 31 at the State Office Tower in downtown Columbus. Rachel will be honored at a recognition ceremony on March 10.

Geric Martin, an eighth grader will be recognized at the Youth Art Month Exhibition ceremony on March 10 at the State Teacher’s Retirement Systems (STRS). His colored pencil drawing, titled Bertone was chosen to be a part of the annual OAEA YAM exhibition which will run from March 1 – 31 at STRS.

Eighth grader Jackie Richardson and seventh grader Hugh Carstensen were top winners in the annual Ohio Youth Art Month flag design competition sponsored by OAEA. Richardson received first place in the Graphic Design Category of the competition and Carstensen received second place in the Flag Design category of the competition. Both will be honored at the March 10 ceremony at STRS.

Guest speaker Bob Warren

bobwarrenGuest speaker Bob Warren, of Circleville visited the McDowell art room on Friday February 10th. The seventh and eighth grade art students were studying the American artist Fredric Remington. Remington was a great, great uncle of Warren and is know as America’s most popular nineteenth century Western artist. The main subject matter of his work was the American Indian, cowboys, horses, military, and the western frontier. Warren shared anecdotes of Remington’s life and art work and brought with him eight bronzes and eight prints which included artist’s proofs.

Warren is pictured with Brant Warren, AJ. Peless, Andrew McJunkin, John Neuding, Alex Bothel, Tabi Clifton and Hayley Fultz.

Recently Steva Hoops, was a special guest artist at McDowell. She presented techniques to the afternoon seventh grade art classes and worked with students to create a hand-made card using scrap booking tools and materials.
