8th Grade Boys Tell Us That Parents Make the Difference – January 31, 2207
We met with our 8th grade boys who made the honor roll this nine weeks and talked to them about what motivates them to get good grades.  While several things were mentioned, they overwhelming said that they get good grades because their parents expect it of them.  In many cases there are positive or negative consequences at home as a result of their grades.

Underage drinking prevention:  Parents, we have more influence over our children’s decisions than we realize.  Parents’ disapproval is the key reason children give for not using alcohol.  Take a look at the following facts.

•
Research suggests that children are less likely to drink when their parents are involved in their lives and when parents and children both report feeling close to each other.

•
Adolescents drink less and have fewer alcohol-related problems when their parents discipline them consistently and set clear expectations about drinking.

•
Parents’ drinking behaviors and favorable attitudes about drinking have been associated with adolescents’ initiating and continuing alcohol use.

Great Internet Resource
I found a great link over the summer for parents, kids, and teens. Sometime you just need a small question answered or pointed in the right direction on emotional and physical concerns. This is one good resource for that. Check it out and let me know what you think.
